The Tumblr account will be taking over the work of this sketch blog, due to the fact that it's a highly trafficked site that can quite frankly bring more exposure than Blogger. I hate to keep bouncing around like this, but hopefully Tumblr will be my last move sketch-blog wise for awhile!

Rei Vegan_ Trade WIP

I've always loved Rei Vegan's character, Neesah, ever since I first started following the comic way back in the day. First of all, she's a lot taller than most chicks (I think she's about 8 feet tall maybe?), and second...well...she's hot :3.

In any case, Rei had asked if I was interested in doing a trade a while ago and well, I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to draw one of my favorite furry Captains in a compromising position.

Farm Fun WIP...

So amidst all the comic prep and spot work I'm doing for Furoticon and Sofawolf I decided to go ahead and color this image I did for Blackfrost for Anthrocon 2011. She gave me permission to use the image as a Sexyfur submission so, I'm sorry my lovelies but this one'll be available only on there.

In any case, on to the art! Here's the original Anthrocon sketch:

When I started digitally inking it, I realized I had made a ton of mistakes on both of their bodies...I usually only find this out when I start inking because I'm looking at the image objectively as I do. So I went in and started doing surgery on each of the characters in turn:

S0c0m3 is up on the chopping block again with his TaunTaun chick Celeste! This time she's having some fun in a cave with his fursona Rufus. This commission started out as a sketch done for Anthrocon 2011:

Eventually, I contacted him and offered to finish it for him, since we were both attending MFF later that year, and he'd be able to hand me the money in person (since for various reasons I'm unable to use Paypal). Once back home, I started by completely re-inking the image digitally, since it gave me the chance to fix a couple of things and makes the whole process easier:

Aaand done! Actually streamed the coloring for this via my Livestream...the first time I've ever streamed my coloring process ^_^! The lighting on this was fun and as always the characters were fun to draw as well.

MFF Cleanup...Part 2

Up next is Rowyin, the second person I've promised a sketch from MFF. He asked for a pregnant cheetah with long hair getting boned by a wolf holding her legs apart. Here's the sketch!

MFF Cleanup...Part 1

So I wasn't able to complete my list of commissions at MFF, and had to take a couple of them home. They belong to Yuumei and Rowyin. First up, I'll take care of Yuumei since his is a little easier than Rowyin's is. Here's the sketch:

If somebody ever gave you a proposition to team up with him and make a big (as in long) comic that would sell for some serious cash, yet would span for a few months, maybe even years, would you accept it?

These days I tend to avoid teaming up with other artists on larger projects because it just never really ends well. For such a project I'd rather go it alone since I don't have to worry about splitting the profits, who gets what rights over what art, who can distribute the material, where, and for how much, etc.

Bottom line, I think the answer to this question is no. If I'm gonna create a long-term comic, I'd rather do it on my own terms, at my own pace, and by my own rules. This way no one's feelings get hurt and there's less stress all around.

Any plans to do more sketches/continuations with Renamon? Such as the one where she's tied up and with a ball gag in her mouth? I'm huge fan of Renamon, and the way you draw her is phenomenal.

Thanks! I didn't really have any plans for such a continuation, but I may do something with her in the future if I find myself with some extra time to burn between commissions. To be honest she's one of those characters I draw when I'm too burned out to do anything else and she's just pure fun for me.

That said, I have a good bit of work I owe to people that needs to be gotten through before I can safely move on to do fun stuff like that, but it's definitely not out of the question ;)!

"Getting Rrowdy" WIP notes

Started up a new coloring job for Ssvanti and Rrowdybeast a couple of weeks ago of Ssvanti's Anthrocon 2011 commission, but for the life of me it's taking a lot longer than expected! I had originally intended to have it completely colored by MFF, but wouldn't you know it, on the Monday of that week I got smacked in the face with a stomach virus, and was out of commission until the Wednesday...the day before I was meant to drive up to Chicago. In any case, I'll be working hard on finishing this commission over Thanksgiving weekend. It started out as a sketch and penciled work for delivery at Anthrocon:

After Ssvanti contacted me and asked that the comic page be completed, I did as I usually do and throw it into painter SAI for digital inking. But, when I do I realize there are several problems with the orignal image. Rrowdy doesn't line up quite correctly behind Ssvanto, not to mention his right leg isn't even attached to his body! Rrowdy's cock is going into Ssvanti's left buttcheek instead of between the two, and also Rrowdy is a lot larger than Ssvanti, which wasn't conveyed correctly in the original image- so I go in and do a bit of image surgery and came up with these inks:

I like this version a lot better, and it's commissioner approved! There was a delay in my progess on this for a bit...moving internationally is a lot of hard work, and I'm gonna have to do it again in a few months (oh joy!). Anyways, I'm back in Bermuda now (for the moment) and I've managed to bang out some flats and shading on this piece. I also corrected a mistake I seem to love making on this particular image- giving them five fingers, instead of four, according to their character designs:

I go on your blogspot every few days, and I don't see a ton of updates on some uncolored works you have, I know it's a lot of work but I was wondering how often do you update it because when I see a new project, or a fully colored picture, I want more. XD

I update about as often as I can really- I don't keep a lot of art "secret". Though it would help to know which uncolored works your'e talking about, I'd wager that some of them are up on paysites like Sexyfur and Tailheat.com. If the completed image was sold to any of those sites, I won't upload the completed image to my blog. Any other image either isn't done yet, or it's done, and I was just too lazy to upload the completed image to my blog. Like I said, it would help to know which projects you're talking about (via my FA private messages if you can :).

Morning Mare 2_ WIP

To say that this image has had an interesting journey would probably be an understatement...

Back in 2007, I had an idea for an image. Basically a horse chick getting nailed from behind, with the camera being closer to her head so that we only saw the penetration partially, and very little of the male involved. Here's what I came up with:

Some of you might recognize it, since it's floating around on the internet...but it was originally on my Tseductions CD from forever ago (my first portfolio that I had for sale). As you can see, it's got a big old "Reject" on it since I thought the idea was a complete flop and that I wouldn't finish it. However, about 2 years later, in 2009, I decided to take another crack at the image, this time taking a slightly different approach with the shot:

I liked these versions a lot better...I made small changes after about a half year went by and came up with the third sketch you see here. I was getting closer, but I still wasn't 100% happy with the way it was turning out. I knew that if I just gave it a bit more time I could get this damned image right! There was a good idea in here somewhere, I just had to wait until I had the experience to properly execute it! And so I waited...and two more years later, in 2011, I finally revisited the sketch and found that I knew how to fix some of the problems. I went in and did some more sketch surgery and came up with this:

...That's a lot better...but still not quite right. I decide that this is about as good as I'm gonna get it and that I don't wanna wait another two years to finish this picture. I go ahead and ink it, knowing that I routinely fix lots of problems in the inking phase. Here's what came out of that:

Finally, something I can live with! And what's more, it involves a dog and mini-mare...an awesome second part to my Morning Mare series! Very convenient I think. So now I set off to color and finish them up. This is how the fluids are looking so far:

"Chade Out" WIP

So a few years ago, gNAW and I got to talking and decided we'd do a trade. For my half, he asked that I do an image of his cop collie, Rianna Chade. Why it took me this long to get around to doing my end of the trade, I've no idea (as the stack of comics and commission requests collapses behind me).

Um- well, maybe I have some idea...On to the art! The gun was the part I enjoyed the most I think. I had the "Lord of War" soundtrack playing as I did it too X3.As you can see there's a huge difference between the sketch, inks, and complete image when it comes to the head. Getting a handle on that perspective wasn't easy (thanks to Gunmouth and Kamicheetah for helping me out with that!)

Anyways, Miss Chade was a ton of fun to do and it was really fun to do something that actually wasn't porn related at all X3!

Alrighty, starting up a new commission for Un over on FA, featuring his tiger, "Graaz" and Postrodent's blue catgirl, "Aja".

This commission so far has ben extremely fun and extremely frustrating. The initial sketch actually came out quite easily (a lot easier than I thought it would, actually), but the thing that drove me absolutely BONKERS was Graaz's face. I must have redone that sucker like four times before I finally got something I was pleased with!

Like they say, if at first you don't succeed, try, try again, right? In any case, I'm pleased with the progress so far and so is the commissioner- on to flat coloring!

Color change request on her shirt from the commissioner...personally I think it works a bit better :3.

Now I get to focus on the background for a little while. Damn but those stripes were way more time consuming than I thought they'd be!

...And done! For some reason the lighting on this image gave me a ton of problems. Primary (the sun) was easy, but secondary confused me for awhile (hell, I'm still a bit confused to be honest, though I'm pleased with the result). In any case, here it is, commissioner approved and ready to go. Looks like they're having fun ^_^!

Autumn Marrow WIP

This is my "Trade time" of the year I guess, and next up on the block is Chibi-Marrow! She's got a really cute character so this one was pretty fun to draw as well. She asked for her character doing something fall-related, so I figured what's more Autumn-ish than walking along in a park sipping some coffee (or hot chocolate...whatever your tastes may dictate) while watching the leaves fall? Everyone's done that, right? Well, even if you haven't, you've gotta admit it sounds like a relaxing way to wile away an afternoon, eh? Anyways, on to the sketchy and inks :3.

Holy crap this one's fun to color, since it's using lots of my favorite type of light (orangy-yellows) ^_^! See that big old leaf in the next picture? That's a leaf that I painted once and copied over and over for the foreground foliage. When dealing with leaves you actually need to see it's sometimes nice to just paint it once and duplicate it as many times as you need :3.

And now for some off tones...I chose a bluish green light cuz I needed something to offset all the warm colors that were already going on.

Backtrack Volume 2 Book cover notes

So Caltroplay and I decided to do a trade last year at Anthrocon, and at first I was gonna do a pretty raunchy pic of one of her sexbait characters whose name escapes me at the moment. However, after delving more deeply into her gallery, I found Dalien- a fighter type character from her comic that she's working on. I instantly fell in love with the character's design and wanted to not only draw her for my end of the trade, but I also wanted to make her the cover of my most recent artbook:Volume 2 of Backtrack!

I started out with a pretty straightforward design that had Dalien facing the viewer directly with a kind of Thai/oriental thing going with her pose...

In fact, I liked that design so much that I carried her straight through into the basic color stage. At that time I was still convinced that I could successfully make her into a really cool looking cover for the book....

Eventually though, I began to dislike the symmetrical nature of the image. To me it was flat and uninteresting. Is this gonna attract people to buy the book when they see it on a shelf? I don't think so. So I set out to redraw the image so that it was slightly more dynamic. I didn't mind though, since Dalien is such a bloody interesting character to draw, I did so happily. Here's what I came up with initially:

There we go...just a bit better eh? Her lines are supposed to be minimal since this is gonna be my first attempt at being a bit painterly and lineless. Not sure how this is gonna turn out, but that's what experiments are for, right? I made a mockup of the cover layout when I did the background and the basic shades and here's what happened:

Now I get to go in and make her look all pretty and stuff...

Must...not give up...hand starting to cramp X3!! I'm happy with the way she's going though.

It's been a while since I've updated my Blogger, but that's because I've been busy busy busy makin' artings and stuff! I can't show you all of it just yet, but I just thought I'd post the WIP stuff for this project I just finished for EIXIN's Renamon portfolio!

Needless to say I was ecstatic when he contacted me asking whether I'd be okay doing some art for the book, so it was really a no brainer for me...even though I had to squeeze these between two other pretty big projects, I managed to get them done in time for the book's release! "Testing" Series WIP

To be honest, this series began as a tribute to some really old guilmon fanart that Mysterious Mr. Glenn did waaay back in the day that involved tentacles. I wanted to do something similar, but with perhaps more machinery and bondage. At first, I did a pose and situation that was very similar to the original image.

But eventually, I started branching off, just for fun, and thinking up other situations to put poor Guilmon in. I really liked Nekogami's restraints that he used in one of his image series, and decided to borrow them for mine. He agreed to letting me use them, providing I supply some Gami porn at some point (which you can see at the end of the series).

I had a ton of fun with this series, I probably won't do stuff like this terribly often since time is money and well...I didn't get paid for any of these X3! But, sometimes it's just nice to do things for free, ya know?

...if only on occasion :).

"Drafty in Here" progress notes...

Backdraft, like Casidhe, wanted his Anthrocon commission colored and finished, so here we go! His image went through a similar process, with a digital inking given to the image after the penciled work was delivered at Anthrocon:

However, just like before, I found that I didn't like his face, and the position of his left leg seemed really awkward to me. I decided to give him another go-over once I had taken a break from the image for a bit to work on Joltieboy's comic, "In Better Spirits". Here's what I came up with:

I'm pleased with this- his leg is a whole lot less awkwardly places, and his face isn't nearly as weird as it was before. For some reason, I'm able to see these flaws only after I've been working on the image over and over again. In any case, next step is coloring (probably after I finish Casidhe's).

Flat colors :3!

"Showoff" Progress notes

This is a commission for Casidhevixen from FurAffinity- she wanted her commission from Anthrocon colored up and finished, so the first step was to digitally ink it after I delivered the pencilled product to her at the convention:

I added a collar and some socks to spice up the image a bit, but I still didn't like it very much. I decided to take a break from the image, and after taking a short break from it I found that I still didn't really like her muzzle, and the collar was a bit too simple. Also, her boobs were a bit strange. So, after a bit more fiddling with it, I came up with this:

Finally, an ink I can live with...her face is a lot thinner and more feminine, and the collar/ boobs are looking decent enough to color. Next up, the coloring stage :3!

Annd finito! Was gonna take some WIP screenshots but totally forgot to X3...I hope you like her anyways!

"In better Spirits" WIP notes

This comic is for Joltieboy over on Furaffinity. It will feature his character and Dawn, one of the main characters from Sexyfur.com. It will also more than likely be available in my public gallery on Furaffinity. I was able to get the initial 8 sketches done before Anthrocon 2011, and while at the convention, was able to get feedback from Joltieboy that the comic could use a bit more lengthening. Here's what I have so far though...

I think so far my favorite pages are page 1, 3, and 6! That truck and trailer were freaking hard XP...next step- inking!

As I inked the comic, though, I realized that I really didn't like pages 5 and 8. In fact, I hated them. They kinda sucked really. So, I decided that while I was sketching out pages 9 and 10 (Joltieboy wanted to extend it to a 10 page comic), I'd resolve to sketch new pages to replace the curent page 5 and 8. As a result, I came up with these thumbnails:

To solve the continuity problem I scooted the old page 4 up to page 5's slot, and put the new page of of 69 stuff into the now vacant page 4 slot. It worked out quite well I think. Here's what the comic looks like after the dud pages are excluded, the new ones are included, and it's all inked up. I also went through and made some tweaks to Dawn's hair because I really didn't like it before.

Compelling Kipper...

This image has had a very...interesting life so far. She started out as a fairly simple linework commission for Kipper over on FurAffinity. At first, the sketch came out like this:

And it was approved! But, later on during the inking stage, the commissioner wanted the face changed, from a downwards-angle to an upwards one. I ended up doing two different versions of the inks, simply because I liked the first one a lot...

Given the choice, the commissioner chose the one on the left, because she more closely fit his description. After I finished the inking on these I went to Elliott's Spring Gathering 2011, and when I got back, I had another look at both of them. I decided that I hated both of them, and that I would get that face looking right if it damn near killed me! An hour and a half later, I finally came through with this version:

Finally, I had nailed it. I like this version far, far better than the previous two, so I'm happy to let her rest while I negotiate whether she'll be colored eventually. I'll keep you posted!

For the Motherland...

Those who have read A Gift Given will recognize the character in this commission- it's Tavia the Russian husky :)! This pic is actually a not-so-surprise birthday gift from her player's buddy Alps over on FA. They were looking for an image that resembled a Russian propoganda poster from WW2. I came up with several ideas for the poster, which I jotted down in quick thumbnails:

Given the choice, both Alps and Tavia chose version "C", since we can see her tail. I was partial to both "B" and "C", so I was glad that they chose one of the ones I liked. She's facing left in all of them because victory for the Russians lied to the west (in Germany, or more specifically, Berlin.).

From this point, I took it forward past the sketch phase and into the inking phase (a mistake I paid for dearly...I had to redraw it twice in order to get it right). Mistake made, lesson learned... always sketch then resketch before inking!

Yay! My first propoganda poster XD! The background was a strange mix of reds that took a bit of work to get quite right, but I think it came out nicely. Tavia herself was a bit of a challenge to color as well (her fur is purple). I had to balance out the purple of her fur against the background, while still making her sync with the background. Bonk suggested that I highlight her with lots of reds, so that it looks like the background is reflecting off her uniform. The suggestion worked thankfully, and there we have it!

Arabian Ale...

Skimike and TsumeZyco approached me to draw their characters together in an Arabian setting and I just couldn't resist squeezing them in before I start gearing up for Anthrocon 2011. I've done commissions for both of them in the past, and they're both very easy to work with :3. The only stipulations for the commission were that we have to be able to see both characters' faces, as well as Ale's knot pressing into Tsume. This is what I came up with:

They wanted the characters on a couch on a balcony overlooking an Arabian-type city, and I thought that the columns between the characters and the city would add some depth to the image. However, once I inked it, I realized I didn't really need the columns.

This version was approved by both commissioners, so off to the coloring block they go ^_^!

Basic colors down...and of course, it's at my favorite time of day (sunset). Alecrast's markings were very, very time consuming because they seemed so random at first, but then I noticed that there was a pattern I had to follow, so I had to erase them and do them all over again. They came out decently in the end though.

I need to get into that BG and touch up those buildings though...they're semi-transparent when they really shouldn't be...strange...

Complete! Fixed the buildings by duplicating the layer a few times and voila! Opaque buildings (not sure why they were semi-transparent in the first place, but oh well....). I tried a slightly different coloring method on this one that I think worked out fairly well. Feels good to be getting these commissions out of the way- off to Elliott's Spring Gathering this afternoon ^_^!

Schinschi commissioned me to draw his Unigan, Caelias and I must admit, I was kinda intimidated by the prospect...I had never drawn a Unigan before, and their proportions are a lot different from a typical male (mainly in the arms and legs).

Regardless I decided to give him a shot and here's the result! I had gotten the look on his face wrong at first, but that was easy enough to fix. I'll be working on coloring him as soon as I settle down in Atlanta later this week!

Base colors! I added a bit of pink to the tip of Caelias' cock to accent it and break up some of that blue that's so prevalent in his body. I'm hoping the commissioner is okay with it, but I'll certainly change it back if needs be :3. Next up, background and shading!

And done! I really like the way the colors came out on this one :3. I'm a big fan of secondary light and that faint blue coming from the corner just made this image for me. I hope Schinschi likes it =3!

Don't Go Near the Sorcress_Inks

Alrighty, here we go. This project has been sitting on my desk for a really long time now and I've finally managed to get it to the inks stage :3! The thumbnails for this book illustration have been done since September 2010 (...you can take a look at the thumbnails by clicking this link.)

As you can see, a lot's changed since the thumbnail stage, and I think I'm still missing one of them (the tense confrontation seen in thumbnail 2). I may or may not have time to do it before the images go off to the publisher though...we'll see what happens. In any case, on to the art! I hope to have this book on Furplanet's shelves by AC2011.

The full-color versions will be featured on Sexyfur and the black and white versions will of course be available with the book!

Kipper Commission_Kale

So Kipper over on FA asked me to do up something featuring his girly lion character, Kale. He looked like a fun character to draw, so I accepted his challenge :3. I'm happy to say that Kale was just as fun to draw as I thought he'd be, and even though I was only supposed to go to the sketch stage initially, he was just so fun to work on that I kept going to the ink and toning stage.

"An Acquired Taste" Production Notes

Okay- this comic has been a long time coming. Not so long as some of the other ones on my project list, but it's been on the backburner for a good long while (about a year and a half I think). It's also gone through three name changes, from "Order for Order", to "Passion and Prejudice", to finally, "An Acquired Taste". As you can see, these inks still have the Passion & Prejudice title on them, since I'm too lazy to replace the names on them all X3. No worries, the final versions will have the correct names.

Also, the final versions will be on Tailheat- sorry all you broke folks, a feller's gotta eat ya know :).

Basic story: Keoni, a bartender is telling his compatriot about an intimate encounter with a surly off duty Security guard that rubbed him completely the wrong way. The guard comes to his quarters the day after the encounter to apologize, with a six-pack of Guiness-like beer. Keoni hates it, but that's okay, "It's an acquired taste", the security dog assures him, while licking his muzzle clean. One thing leads to another of course ;)....

Like "A Gift Given..", this comic was written by Alps Sarsis. Damn but that boy can write a comic ^_^!

Meet Kabira :3.

After several years of having not decided on a character for myself, and running into several situations where I needed a character to represent me and having to use Tsenaya (my blue jackal chick), I've settled on a character of my very own. Actually, he's existed for several years, since one of my roomies in Canada got interested in the fandom and asked Spunky to design a character for him.

Unfortunately, the character she designed fell into disuse when his interest in the fandom waned, and I found the original sketch of the design under his bed when I was looking for my eraser he borrowed. Yes, an original sketch from Jen Seng...treated like so much refuse, half crumpled under this dude's bed. I took the sketch, flattened it as best I could, and gave it a home in one of my portfolios.

He never even noticed it was gone.

That being said, I sat on it for 3 years until now, when I realized he was a really good looking character. So I cleaned up the original sketch, inked it, and used colors that Aries84 had designed for him (see below). So yep, that's that. I may tweak his design over time, but for the most part, Kabira will be my own avatar. Spunky said that some kind of big cat would be best for my avatar (I guess it was the way I was flopped on her couch at the time). I think Kabira suits me in any case.

FWA Sign designs...

...So I volunteered to do some basic signs for Furry Weekend Atlanta, and the Art Director of the convention asked for something involving the Cheshire Cat. I submitted a row of thumbnails for his consideration, with the first two being a bit more dark and mischievous and the last two being a bit more traditional and mischievous, without really being that dark.

Given the choice, Lucky chose the last two- I'm assuming we're going for less of a dark, gritty type of Wonderland and for more of a fun, bouncy type. Therefore, I used nice, round lines that were slightly inviting and less venomous.

So hopefully we'll be seeing these kitties around FWA pointing out points of interest and generally being mischievous little pests. He was a ton of fun and a nice break from doing porn comics :3!

Alrighty, I'm firing up a new commission for JousterL over on FA. Like the previous couple, it started out as a piece of linework for MFF2010. This one was interesting since it involved a "goo-girl", which is something I don't usually draw. The commissioner gave me a blank slate while drawing the girl, so I chose a random canine with a stub tail :3.

I went in and redrew her face, since I really didn't like the way it was looking. For some reason, I always draw faces better when I do them digitally. Not sure if that's a bad thing though...it gets the job done at any rate :). She looks a bit more feline now (it's the ears), but she looks better nonetheless. With the commissioners approval, I'll continue to the inks stage.

Aaand here's the ink stage. I added some goo-locks, since I thought the girl would look better with some sort of hair...If the commissioner doesn't like it though I'll remove it. Also added in Jousterl's wings, since they added a greater sense of symmetry to the image and made it a bit more readable. If the commissioner approves, I'll take it to the color stage :3!

Base colors are down and phew! I can honestly say this was one of the most challenging flat jobs I've done. The reason is that this is the first goo-girl I've ever done and since I couldn't use regular skin/fur tones on her, I had to use a color that was unnatural for a living being, while making her complimentary to Jousterl's feathers and the background as well. I think it came out quite nicely though.

As you can see, I gave her a long tail because her face is just so incredibly feline that the fact she had a canine tail was really bugging me. I also played up the fact that she's a goo girl and made her melt into a puddle, semi-submerging Jousterl.

And finally the finished work. I have to admit that this was probably one of the um...weirdest commissions I've ever done. Weird not because of the subject matter, but because of the odd color of one of the characters (I've never colored a goo character before). When I was coloring her I grabbed some pics of Jello from Google and referenced those as I was doing her highlights. In any case, I think the image came out nicely for my first foray into gooey chicks :3.

Alrighty, starting up a new commission for Foxykin and Dragoncard over on FA. This pic, like the previous two, was started as a sketch for MFF2010. As such, I was kinda in a hurry when I was drawing it, so the snowwie's arm ended up stubby.That, as well as a couple of other anatomical flaws cropped up, and I only noticed it after the image was posted. So I went in and did some quick digital surgery on the pic...

Next step is the inkwork!

Inks complete! Decided to change the position of Foxy's arm...I didn't like the way it was sitting on the snowwie's shoulder. I'm thinking of having them be in a cave with a rainforest outside it and it's raining...kinda like they got stuck in the cave and decided to pass time time like this :3. After the commissioner approves, I'll move into the color stage :).

Aaaand done! I especially like the rainforest cave theme...I was at odds with myself as to whether I wanted to have a slight blush on her fur (anthro creatures don't blush), but I found that it warmed up the image quite nicely, since the inside of the cave was a bit too "cold". In any case, I'm pretty proud with the way they came out. Fwee! Last image of 2010!

Celeste Cave WIP Notes...

This is the startup of a new commission for S0C0M_3 on FA. It started out as a commission for MFF2010, but transformed into a full-blown commission when I expressed my willingness to take it all the way to the color stage. She proved to be an interesting subject, being something as strange as a TaunTaun (from the Star Wars Universe, if anyone doesn't know what they are). The most interesting thing about Celeste here is that she doesn't have a vagina at all...she's got a cloaca. I made the mistake of ignoring that fact in the sketch at first, but her owner quickly corrected me.

For the background, I'm probably gonna have her in a cool ice cave, since the stable thing is a bit over done, and I think I can get some cooler lighting effects that way. Also, what better setting for a snow-bound encounter with a taun-taun than in a nice, warm ice-cave beside a fire? I think the BG is gonna be fun to paint:3.

Basic colors down! Had to modify her crotch area at the commissioner's request...I personally prefer her in the first version, but hey, the commissioner gets what the commissioner wants :3.

"A Gift Given..." Production Notes

So I've started up another comic for the Holidays, This one, featuring Geri and Tavia- a Deer & Husky couple that are originally seen in Alps' story series on Sexyfur, "Crushed Velvet". I fell in love with the two, and the idea of such an unlikely couple getting (and staying) together despite their differences. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to start the comic until early October...and well...as any person who's done a comic knows, two months isn't a whole lot of time to get a fully colored comic started up and out the door. In any case, it was time to get to work...

Alps is a fantastic writer, which is why I'm so excited to be working with him on this project. But, be that as it may, he'd never written a comic before. In its original state, the comic would have gone on for about 25 pages...which isn't that bad really, but when we're talking about a porn comic, it can be. So I had to condense the story a LOT.

The most difficult part about these first pages was condensing the original story that was written, without damaging the integrity of the storyline while still keeping it readable. I think I could have perhaps done things differently in a few places (for instance, on all the pages with nothing but talking heads), but all in all, I think it's come out okay so far.

Kamicheetah was the one who suggested that I allow the characters to break out out of their frames in certain places on page 6- so she gets major kudos. It made the page look a FUCKTON better.

I'm actually really, really falling in love with the heavier linework style...It makes coloring the comic a bit easier, and lends a bit more style to the whole thing. I've gotten the comment that Tavia looks more pregnant than anything, and really, it's true. She's not pregnant, but this is my first time doing a chick that isn't a barbie girl ;)! I need practice with the chubbier side of the spectrum, to be sure, but it's something I intend to work at! Those internal mouth shots on page 7 were inspired by Gunmouth's work, and as always, Kamicheetah was a real help with cleaning up the anatomy on these pages.

Here we go- this is the last ink update for this comic. Pages 10-13 were a real blast to ink, since it's got all the sex and junk in there with very few complex things I had to draw. The most challenging things about the remaining pages were figuring out where I wanted a given character to break out of their frame, and, suprisingly drawing that damned Chibi character in the last panel of the last page. He's a personification of Geri's reaction when Tavia asks him what else he got her for Christmas. He thought the jerky and sex would be enough, and now has no clue what he should do. Lead in for another comic later on down the line? Perhaps, we'll see :3.

Lots of advancements were made in the progression of this comic- including me figuring out how the hell to use masking in Photoshop (thanks Zaush!), figuring out a standard size for all of my pages (again, thanks to Wan), realizing that I LOVE heavy linework in comics, and figuring out a slightly simpler way to color comic pages. I had tons of fun with this project- now to finish it, do my Christmas shopping, and move onto the next comic!

Meet Tavia and Geri...

Alrighty, so these two are gonna be the stars in the comic that I'm working on. The story was written by Alps Sarsis, and the characters belong to a friend of his. Here are their full descriptions:

Tavia:

Tavia is a buxom Russian husky with cream/white and violet fur appearing to be in her late twenties to early thirties. She isn’t overly thin, more of the “girl next door” kind of look to her, but not overweight either. She has green eyes, dark nose-pad, pink nipples and sex. Her pads on her hands and feet, when visible, are darker colored, brown or black. Her nails and foot-claw tips are black. Her hair is more natural-husky-style, in that it’s short to her head except in back where it fluffs up a little more, which is pretty common to the breed. She has a curvy, padded, feminine figure, but is not terribly tall, perhaps just above five and a half feet tall. She has a typical fluffy, curly husky tail, which is very active and expressive. She has strong-looking legs and large, snow-gripping foot-paws, though her legs are plantigrade. Tavia typically wears t-shirts and jeans, or when it’s cold, a bomber jacket, and a fuzzy Russian-style hat.

Personality:

Tavia is a fairly serious woman, and does not like bright, shiny, fickle, pointless things. She prefers action movies, horror movies, and thrillers. She openly refers to watching romantic movies and family films as “eating grass”. Tavia is intelligent, quick witted, and can be very cold with those she doesn’t know. She is aloof, but has a playful streak about her when it comes to military discussions, guns, and explosions. A natural disaster would seem a perfect playground for this husky. Tavia is rather secretive about her past, and does not like to talk about her feelings. She liked her friends distant, her sex rough, and her livestock cut into small pieces, salted, and placed in convenient baggies. Tavia does not seem to currently work. She is retired, somehow.

History:

Not a lot is known about Tavia’s past because she does not like to talk about it. She currently lives in a scenic rural area well outside of a might-as-well-be nameless township thirty-five miles from a not-so-big city in Colorado. Her strong accent and difficulty with some English words suggests that she probably immigrated after she was an adult, and she still holds strong ties to her Russian heritage, becoming angry if people insult or belittle her homeland. She ended up befriending (and becoming intimately involved with) a deer named Geri, who likes her even though her hunger for meat makes him nauseous. It has been recently revealed to Geri that she was, at some time in her past, a Russian spy. While this fact has made their relationship a little rocky due to her insistence on hiding her past from Geri, her friend seems to be willing to stick it out, much to her chagrin. Still, with how she ducks questions and glosses over things about her past, there is some suggestion that she’s hiding even bigger secrets from him. She likely has very good reason.

Geri Swanson:

Geri is a rather tall, strong-looking buck. He’s a white-tail deer about 6’2 beneath his antlers, colored chocolate and tan, the tan running along his front and under his chin, with typical dark deer markings for his muzzle and ears. His feet are somewhat digigrade, and are typical cervine hooves. He’s got ice-blue eyes, and is usually wearing a cheerful, friendly expression. Geri treats his body like a temple, and while he’s not a body-builder, he’s very strong, and nicely toned. The deer is impressively built intimately too, sporting nearly a foot of venison sausage for whichever lucky lady gets to sample him. Geri is a bit of a yuppie, and typically wears nice clothes, like slacks, cargo shorts, button up dress shirts and polo shirts.

Personality:

Geri is not as serious as Tavia, being more interested in having a good time, meeting up with friends and being social, and being otherwise active and out in the open. He is a little bit narcissistic, feeling like people, as a rule, should like him because he’s a polite, nice guy. He works as a software sales consultant for a business software development company. Geri is fascinated with all things geeky and technical, and is a fan of sci-fi and comedy movies, loving Space Balls more than his own existence. He is very helpful and truthful, genuinely dependable and will stick his neck out for any friend. Even those who would bite it if he did.

History:

Geri was born to well-to-do parents who he never quite seemed to impress, so he got away from Oregon, where he was from, and never looked back after going to a local technical college. He decided to live out in the country, building a nice house in a scenic area in Colorado, but the house collapsed from excessive snow piling up in the under-sloped roof less than a year later. He was forced to stay with Tavia, his closest neighbor until the storm abated, and became intimate with her during that time. He hates her love of meat, it makes him sick, but he still puts up with her, even if the two of them tease and chide one another. Geri does not seem to have any useful abilities other than rolling with the punches remarkably well when Tavia keeps showing more and more sides to her life that are directly harmful to him!

This one evolved from a harmless pic done for fun and a $20, into a full blown piece that I'm gonna have on Sexyfur sometime soon. I fell in love with it, but I suck at feet. So I went and referenced a set of Gunmouth's feet, because he's a freaking master at them.

I need to sketch more feet....

I like the way it came out though.... at least her snatch doesn't take up her entire mound anymore X3!

Elliott's Winter Carnival WIP notes...

So the dude who helps organize Elliott's Gatherings contacted me and asked that I design their winter convention art for the T-Shirt and con badge. This tickled my fancy of course, since I've never done official convention artwork before :3! So I got started thinking about what I wanted to have on the T-Shirt.

Since the convention mascot is King Elliott, a lion character that featured in one of those Disney movies back in the day, I decided that I wanted a nice, regal feel about the whole design. I also wanted something warm and inviting. since the con is gonna happen in January. The first thing I needed to figure out was how to make it nice and regal.

Lion statues and motifs abound in today's world, and it wasn't that difficult to find some reference for the heraldry that I wanted to have in the image. After a bit of digging on the internet and sketching in SAI, I came up with this design you see here on the left. I was originally gonna have him sipping hot chocolate, but the kingly goblet seemed more fitting.

The window is probably gonna be showing snow and stuff on the outside, while the inside is gonna be warmer, lit by a fireplace outside of the shot. The heraldry on the outside is gonna be cooler (probably bluish), to kinda give the message "come sit by the king's fire, won't you?"

The heraldry at the bottom became my first priority. The whole thing's for nothing if that little thing doesn't look good. So I focus on that for the moment. First I inked it and laid down the basic color gradient, overlaid by a basic stone texture. In hindsight, maybe I should have done the texture by hand...but that would've taken forever XP :

Next I lay down the multiply layer that's gonna let me light this thing...And I go ahead and light it as if the light source is shining from somewhere above it.

A bit flat if you ask me, despite that gradient underneath it. I think a bit of highlighting is in order, just to wake this kitty up. Then some shadow under his muzzle to make it pop out a little more.

Finally, a color dodge layer to make the stone and his eyes shine a bit more... The shine on the eyeballs was a last minute decision...it'll probably be gone in the final version.

Okay, that takes care of the heraldry...now to ink the main image. I decided to go with a heavier line style, since it's gonna be at a T-Shirt and the printer's gonna need some nice thick lines to chew on...smaller, more delicate lines rarely come out on a T-shirt looking nice. Also his mane was looking a little TLK in the sketch, so I decided to change it up a bit so that he doesn't look like Simba or Mufasa :)...

Cool beans. Now I get to color this king of beasts...I think this one's gonna be fun :)!

Jiktar & Wi commission production notes...

Some preliminary work on Jiktar and Wi's commission can be seen here. From the description it was bound to be pretty involved, so I had to go from the ground up on this one...thumbnail, sketch, sketch again, then if the sketch was coming along properly, an ink job.

So, it started out like this (it's the one on the left):

Don't worry about the one on the right...that's a thumbnail for a trade I'm doing with Dastardly Devil that I've since decided to redraw. So yeah, this is how a lot of my images start out these days...semi-detailed thumbnails that show the way the lighting is gonna go and the general construction of the picture.

Next, after the thumbnail was approved, I kept on going...but ran into a problem. Jiktar (the one that's in the sex machine) doesn't look natural to me. The center of the image is also really busy, and there's a lot going on in there. I decided to simplify it by taking the machine hanging from the ceiling and having it arch over Jiktar from the back. That takes care of quieting down the middle of the image. But, then his head didn't seem right at all...it too looked weird. So I changed its position a bit and angled it upwards. These two sketches were the result of all that experimentation:

Given the choice, the commissioner chose version B (the one on the right), which was cool, since it was my favorite version as well :3. The head is angled upwards and it seems like the character is enjoying himself a bit more. From that choice I produced the next sketch (yes, another sketch XP!)

Next came the tricky part...inking. I had to finalize the designs for the cockpump, the tentacle that had been screwing the character's ass, and the machine that was making all this stuff happen. I borrowed a design from Leosaeta over on Inkbunny for the machine, and a few bits and pieces of the thing I based on Nek0gami's designs that he uses in his LGD series. I did that since the commissioner specifically pointed out that he liked the designs that I used in a previous commission...on which I also borrowed some of Gami's designs. After much toil and about 8 hours worth of work.....

...I finally managed to come up with a decent set of inks...my hand paid the price for it though- ouchies...carpal tunnel hurts :(....On the bright side, I got to solve lots of problems during the inking process, such as how his balls could be held up so we could see his butt and the juice that's gonna be on/in it. Luckily we have some helpful tentacles that are willing to do the job ;). I also got to figure out how to make the anal probe a bit nicer and more detailed (thanks to Redic for that!).

...Next, I get to work on coloring this scientific endeavor....wish me (and my hand) luck!

Whew! These base colors were a lot harder than I thought they'd be.Also redid Wi's head and added his goggles (which I stupidly forgot in the initial sketch/ink).

...at this point, the BG's in there, and so is the shading on the characters. Some of the detailing on the "cum tank" is done, and I've just laid in the basic shapes for the fluids. The shading isn't done on the tentacles yet because I haven't decided whether I wanna make them semi-transparent or opaque. Notice that I haven't even touched the shading on the characters yet...with images that are this complicated I normally leave the shading on the characters themselves until the very end. That way, the bulk of my energy is spent on the little details that make stuff like this sing :3. Next up, the finished piece!

...MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.

...Like 20-something hours of work went into this thing. Damn, I knew it would take a long time, but not that long XP...Geez....

An Acquired Taste studies...

Ok, so Samuel and Keoni here are a couple of characters from Tailheat.com, and I'm working on a comic with them in it. They've in lurv :3.

I actually decided to redo Keoni from gNAW's original design, since I found him to not be as cartoony as I would have imagined him, as well as being a bit more thin than I had envisioned him initially. I didn't want Keoni to be a little girlyboi...I wanted him to be a little more muscular, but not too muscular if you know what I mean. His fur tone has also been tweaked, although if you don't subscribe to the site you wouldn't notice.

In any case I really like his new design a lot. I'm anxious to draw him doing some naughtyness :3.

Sam is a fat Security guard. If you look a bit further back in this blog you'll see that he used to be fairly skinny. But now he's the first fat character I've ever drawn, so take it easy anatomy police. I know he's not perfect- gimme a break! I decided to make him fat because come on...a fit German shepherd security guard is a little predictable. But an unfit, fat one- well, it's not much of a difference, but it IS a difference!

There were a couple of variations on his color that I went through. The one I settled on is above, but at first his color tone was a lot lighter....

But yeah, more on these two as the story develops...I just wanted to give everyone a peek at them before I start working with them.

"Desert Mission" WIP

"Desert Mission" started out as a sketch I did in my friend's book to thank him for letting me stay at his house while I was in Canada, as well as being my personal chauffer while I was there (muaaahahahaha...). But once I got home and looked at the sketch, I realized that not only could the sketch be done a whole lot better, but that I actually wanted to use it as a cover for my 2009/2010 artbook.

To that end I threw Cyrus here into SAI and here's what I came up with. I'm a lot better with drawing digitally so I used the opportunity to expand the pic, put in an extra element (the right hand holding the scimitar), change the dagger to a more Arabian one (because let's face it, straight daggers are boring), and fix his hair (because the anime-ish sprout in the front wasn't working for me).

And finito...I really like this one actually. This isn't the final design for my backtrack folio cover, but It's a step in the right direction! I really like the way the designs on the blade came out. I think the designs on his scarf could stand to be a bit less opaque, but I decided to leave them be because they make the scarf pop out a bit more :).

Memories of Seshen...

Ok, so waaay back in the day, when I was first getting into this stuff, Greg Panovich's character, Seshen intrigued me. I loved her back in the day when I first saw him do some pretty raunchy stuff with her, and even today, I can look at those old pics that he did of her and find something about them I like every time.

Recently I got into a discussion with Roland about how we missed Greg's older characters, and as a result of that discussion I decided that I'd do an image of Seshen, just to see how she would fare in my style. Looking at the pic, I'd say she made the transition well, although I didn't stick strictly to the design of her character (her inner ears are supposed to be gold, and she's supposed to be wearing a funerary collar, instead of that golden one she's got on). I chose that collar design because the funerary collar probably wouldn't be very visible from this angle anyways.

I think my favorite part of this pic is her hair...it's pretty simplistic but I like the way it turned out.

Black characters are damned hard to light btw. I don't think I'll be doing much more of her, but it was a fun experiment to see how she'd look in my style!
